Ep. 8 – Common Running Injuries – The Running Institute – Physical Therapy at St. Luke's

injuries No Comments »

Most runners will have minor aches and pains from time to time. But more serious issues can cause persistent pain and swelling and stop you in your tracks.

Hi, I’m Howie Knudson of Physical Therapy at St. Luke’s. For runners, the knees, hips and feet are the most prone to injury. Common diagnoses include Patellar tendonitis, Achilles’ tendonitis, Hamstring strain, Stress Fractures, Plantar Fasciitis, Shin Splints, ITB syndrome and Ankle Sprain. Many injuries occur due to compensation resulting in altered stress to an area of the lower body causing pain.

Other injuries are the result of overuse and need to be managed with modification of activity. Injuries can prevent optimal performance and prevent you from achieving your fitness goals.

Let Physical Therapy at St. Luke’s customize a treatment plan to help with your recovery. Our specialized clinicians can evaluate your running form, as well as diagnose problems with strength and flexibility that cause compensation when you run. Don’t let injuries slow you down. Call Physical Therapy at St. Luke’s and let us help you get back on the road.

What you heard was the last words transmitted on the radios of Trans World Airlines Flight 800. This is one of the highest profile aviation disasters to have ever occurred in the United States. It has been the subject of many conspiracies over the years that we won’t be entertaining today. But we will delve into this flight and with the help of the published report from those who conducted the investigation, unpack the events that led the devastation that took the lives of 230 people.
July 17th, 1996, was much like any other day. For those who worked at New York’s John F Kennedy Airport, it was a normal summer Wednesday. JFK Airport was the hub for Trans World Airlines or TWA for short. TWA is now a long defunct airline but at one point they were one of the largest air carriers in the United States.

On July 17, 1996, TWA Flight 800 left JFK airport just after 8:00 pm. Twelve minutes after takeoff, the plane exploded, crashing into the Atlantic Ocean. All 230 passengers on board the Boeing 747 died, sending shockwaves across the country.
But questions soon arose regarding the crash: What exactly happened on the flight? Was the explosion an act of terrorism, or a faulty piece of equipment? And was a missile actually involved? Let’s take a look at the incident, its witnesses, and the investigation that came after. This is the tragic true story of TWA Flight 800.

7 Critical Things to Know about Fasting (Prolonged) – Dr. Berg

Prolonged fasting has a lot of incredible benefits. Here’s what you really need to know before giving it a try.

3:03 What great thinkers have said about fasting
3:52 Fasting vs. starving
5:30 Critical things you need to know about prolonged fasting
18:33 Learn how to make insulin more sensitive!

Today, I’m going to share seven critical things you need to know about prolonged fasting. Fasting is very simple yet very powerful.

Snacking is one of the worst things for your insulin and your overall health. Food is nourishing, but to heal your body, you might be better off not eating.

Snacking causes hunger, weight gain, fatigue, and moodiness—among other potential health problems. Yet, simply not eating can create so many powerful health effects.

Throughout history, many great thinkers, including Hippocrates and Plato, have even had positive things to say about fasting.

Seven critical things you need to know about prolonged fasting (72 hours or longer):
1. Only drink water (2.5 liters), tea, and coffee—and take supplements (electrolytes, B vitamins, vitamin D, and vitamin C)

2. Take electrolytes (including sea salt)

3. Go very slow and gradual when refeeding, and avoid carbs, sugar, and a large meal

4. Don’t take apple cider vinegar

5. Do Healthy Keto when you break your fast

6. Understand the dawn phenomenon (your liver is making sugar due to insulin resistance)

7. Know when to break your fast (don’t stop when it’s uncomfortable—push through the transition phase)

Watch Situation Critical Season 2 Episode 3 The Traits of Trauma on Breakthrough Entertainment

Trauma teams at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto know that some lives are damaged and lost despite all efforts to save them, causing families and medical staff alike to question the roll of a higher power or fate in the course of a trauma’s unfolding events. One man’s recent turn to god may not save him from the drug wars that have landed him in trauma with two life-threatening bullet wounds, while the simplest pleasures for a schoolteacher may alter the course of his life forever. A church-going woman is convinced her fate is in god’s hands, and her surgeon agrees; while a young teen’s fall form a building could be the life-changing event she needs to survive.

Highly charged and fast paced, Situation Critical depicts the panic, relief, suspense and heartbreak of life in an urban emergency room.

Tracking a range of trauma cases that come through hospital doors, five or six stories will be intercut for fast pacing, as narration provides crucial information and makes the link between stories. Shot in a “verité” style, audiences will witness dramatic stories while watching some of the best emergency medical teams as they fight to save lives against often-formidable odds, where every second counts.

Common Injuries From Falling Down Stairs

injuries No Comments »

Common Injuries From Falling Down Stairs

Common injuries from falling down stairs | https://brainlaw.com/personal-injury/premise-liability/

Injuries from falling downstairs occur because a landlord or a property owner hasn’t properly maintained that staircase. It could be from a handrail that’s misplaced. It could be because that staircase doesn’t even have a handrail, or perhaps there’s a rug or carpet that’s frayed or has a hole in it, which causes someone to trip and fall. When each one of these situations takes place and a person falls, there could be a number of different injuries that develop.

There could be ankle injuries as a result of twisting that ankle, there could be fractures of the ankle. There could be injuries to the knee, torn ligaments that may develop. You might also fall and hit your head causing a traumatic brain injury. In each one of these situations, it’s important, obviously, to seek medical advice as soon as possible. It’s also important to go back to that scene as soon as possible and photograph what caused your injury to take place before the situation changes. Frequently, what we see, the landlords are not doing their job properly until, unfortunately, someone gets hurt.

Then they make the repair that they should have made before. It’s important that we, as lawyers, are able to document the dangerous condition that existed at the time of your fall. When you retain the law firm of De Caro & Kaplen, you retain lawyers that will go to the scene of the accident. Will hire appropriate engineers and other experts, search the building close to determine exactly why your injury took place and how that injury could’ve been prevented.

Often times, those who bear the hardship of an accident assume no one’s at fault—they’re simply victims of fate. Hey, accidents just happen, right? Wrong!

De Caro & Kaplen, LLP proudly represents the interests of traumatic brain injury and bodily injury victims in the state of New York and beyond. With demonstrated success both in and out of the courtroom, our attorneys have the passion and persistence to take on the toughest personal injury claims—and win.
